Electricity gone for another month.
They stumble up and down stairs,
fall over objects unseen.
Chancing blazes from dripping candles.
White heat from wood stove
centered in one room.
Bellowing warmth paid for
by her painful physical hardship,
by his broken fortune.
Excruciating void fills children
like a sink hole.
Canned nutrition vacates plates,
anxious in velocity.
Eating, attired in tattered tailoring.
Paycheck slides onto
red, black, odd, even.
Trump card is calling.
Sport of kings.
Number four, second race.
