Hammer

A hand holds a handle
inserted into forged head,
hits nails, conjoining wood.

Abode arises,
renames itself “Home”.
Without you,
only the chaotic remains of trees.

Builds bird’s houses.
Strikes to compel permanence.
Becomes Nature’s ally.

Wooden vessels,
grateful for your aid.
The sum of their parts
sails majestically
upon open waters.

Ageless usefulness defies progress.
Our ancestors knew you,
befriended you,
as we who have followed.
