Lines on the side of his face.
Sleeps with mask
to keep himself breathing.
Without it, he stops.
Lines are good.

Aligns razor to face’s contour.
Does not want to ruin beard.
Razor glides along face.
Lines are good.

Belt lined up to loops in pants.
Belt buckled.
Pants in fine fettle.
Finishes dressing.
Lines are good.

Cleans glasses,
following lines of rims.
Clarity worn during breakfast.
Lines are good.

Reads lines in newspaper.
Arrested last night?
No.
He’s home.
Lines are good.

Reads obituaries.
Died last night?
No.
Alive.
Lines are good.

Retreats to office.
Writes to unseen friends.
Before touching keyboard,
greets day’s first line.
Lines are good.
