Morning’s Frozen Moment
It’s morning.
He awakens-
or does he?
This doesn’t seem
like legitimate life,
but it’s morning
and he’s awake.
Lo and behold,
it was a cry
of the wolf.
He still sleeps,
just stirred
into another dream.
Now,
he awakens,
but does he?
This nightmare continues.
He is not awake.
He knows it
because the ropes
tie him down
and he can’t arise.
He’s awake.
The ropes frighten him
and weaken him,
but he doesn’t
know why.
He longs to ascend,
but the ropes
enchain him.
These are ropes
of fear.
They originate
from nowhere.
They bind him daily.
Each morning he
is shaken into stillness.
