The irony set forth this time of year,
the salient freedom that we celebrate
as Independence Day approaches near,
the time our forebears chose to liberate.
Such noise and colors lighten up the air.
With drink, the crowds of people will rejoice
not unlike New Year’s Eve around Times Square.
Ironically, this omen’s not my choice,
for freedom brings along with it the fear
that, once again, our wandering ways will part
and, as with each and every other year,
the end is bound to devastate my heart.
Still, everyone will feast and drink and cheer
the freedom that was gained this time of year.
