Sonnet #1-The Rendezvous
It’s March, winter’s last chill is in the air,
the same time every year we rendezvous
and set about the hope we both pursue.
Beneath the warmth of sunny southern glare,
our hearts are overrun with fiery flare
to realize what we could not subdue
and grab elusive gifts of sparks anew.
We fill our cognate lives with love to share.
Is this a show, the ruse we’ve always known,
the failure that we find, the haunting fear?
Or can this love, on wings, so quickly flown,
at last discover strength to persevere?
It’s March, winter’s last chill is in the air
and hope’s alive, appearing so sincere.
