Horrible dream.
Death claimed them months ago.
Yet, they opened the door to his nightmare,
entering like thieves.

Male and female beasts spoke.
Sounds were mouths full.
Words unrecognizable.

They lived in his brain all night.
He understood but one word,
spoken like a purring kitten.
“Daniel. Daniel.”

Shutters on his windows to the world opened.
He saw light, yet, heard muffled voices.
Muffled except,
“Daniel. Daniel.”

He sped to his melodies.
They would stave off sounds.
Helpless music against mute noises.
Clarity existed among dark clouds.
“Daniel. Daniel.”

Hands cuffed against head.
Ears protected like jewels.
Invasion continued.
“Daniel, Daniel.”

Glass on the wall became his friend,
an escape from fright.
He opened the window with the care of an undertaker,
climbed outside,
fell past the twenty stories.
Wind whispered,
“Daniel, Daniel.”

Noises suddenly stopped.
